A concealed carrier is being credited with preventing further violence at a South Carolina nightclub.

Spartanburg County deputies say 32-year-old Jody Ray Thompson got into an argument outside Playoffz nightclub in Lyman early Sunday morning. He then opened fire into the nearby crowd, wounding three people.

A man fired back at Thompson in self-defense, striking him in the leg.

A former Jackson police officer has pleaded guilty to a federal charge relating to money he stole from a suspected drug dealer who was actually an undercover FBI agent.

Bryan Jones, 44, pleaded guilty Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan to one count of interfering with commerce by threats or violence. Jones faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine at sentencing, scheduled for Sept. 23. He remains free on $10,000 bail.
