School cafeteria worker fired after giving lunch to kid who had no money

Bowden tells KPVI that last Tuesday she was working as a server when a 12 year old girl told her she didn’t have any money for lunch and was hungry. Bowden says she handed the young girl the food. A supervisor apparently saw the exchange and reported Bowden.

“He said I was on permanent leave until he called me. And they never called me,” Bowden told KPVI-TV.

Bowden says she even offered to pay for the meal, which was $1,70, but her boss would not allow it.

But I also Paid for it out of my own pocket.  Lunches aren't free.  Sorry.

I don't think she should have been fired, but she definitely should have been written up if it was a first time offense, and obviously pay for it or have her pay docked to cover the price of the meal.

Offering to pay for it after the fact is like paying stolen goods because you feel bad.  A little too late to be sorry.

The text submitted doesn't mention what grade this is, if the student was a serial abuser of school policy, if the server was a serial abuser of school policy? What and or who is the superintendent? Considering the crap school lunches that are being served these days a $1.70 is not a lot when you see what is THROWN AWAY everyday because of it's unpalatability. If posting try to add as much detail as possible so that others reading it can make up there own opinions as to what's happening. Perhaps a link would be helpful.
