Rand Paul chews out Congress for not knowing how the government will spend its new trillion dollars
Rand Paul didn’t oppose the $1.1 trillion dollar government spending bill because of what’s in it. He opposed it because he had no idea what’s in it. He didn’t read the full bill before the vote, and he doesn’t think anyone else did either.
“It was over a trillion dollars, it was all lumped together, 2,242 pages. Nobody read it, so, frankly, my biggest complaint is that I have no idea what kind of things they stuck in the bill,” Paul said.
It was only released late Tuesday, Dec. 15, and voted on Friday, Dec. 18, in time for Congress to go home for Christmas. That means Congress had Wednesday, Thursday and part of Friday. For them to read the whole bill in that time, they would have had to read more than 30 pages an hour without stopping before the vote.
Paul blames both parties for the overdose of homework, pointing fingers at “right-wing Republicans who want military spending and left-wing Democrats who want welfare spending, and that’s the dirty little secret,” he said.
