President Trump’s first State of the Union address was by all accounts a smashing success.

Instant polls of Americans who watched the speech found that at least 70 percent of Americans — including a large majority of independents — agreed with what Trump was saying.

To demonstrate just how far down the drain their standards for news and analysis were, CNN spent a couple minutes before the State of the Union Tuesday wondering if First Lady Melania Trump’s outfit was designed to protest the President, her own husband.

Just before the 9 p.m. hour, CNN White House Reporter Kate Bennett was trying to read the tea leaves to understand why Melania didn’t ride with Donald to the Capitol:

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders took a swipe at Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi in a Wednesday interview with CNN.

Sanders referenced Pelosi’s facial reactions to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, during which she appeared slightly unhappy.

“I’ve never seen Nancy Pelosi’s face like that,” CNN host Chris Cuomo said. Sanders quickly retorted that “Pelosi looks like that all the time. I think she should smile more often.”

South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy dropped a bombshell on Wednesday, announcing that he is not seeking re-election.

In a statement, Gowdy said he plans to leave politics altogether to return to working in the justice system.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders grew frustrated with CNN host Chris Cuomo over the network’s incessant coverage of the Russia investigation, in a Wednesday interview.

“We’ve … never seen the obsession over a total hoax like we have seen over the last year,” Sanders said exasperatedly to Cuomo’s questions.

An Amtrak train carrying several members of Congress was involved in an accident with a large truck Wednesday just before noon eastern time.

According to The Atlantic’s Elaine Plott, the train was taking the congressmen from Union Station in Washington, D.C. to a Republican retreat in Greenbrier, West Virginia.

President Trump delivered a new slogan while discussing immigration at Tuesday night’s State of the Union.

“Americans are dreamers too.”
