The electoral college, as this videographer points out, forces candidates for president to campaign to the whole country and not just a few highly populated states. It's a winner-take-all voting system that ensures that the president has a broad support base. This is the way the framers of the constitution wanted the president to be elected.

The electoral college gives mild voting leverage to sparsely populated states. All states get a minimum of 3 electoral votes. An extreme example would be WY with a population of 584k vs CA at 38.8M. CA has 66 times the population of WY but gets 55 electoral votes which is 18 times more than WY's 3 votes.

It's extremely ironic that Sen. Boxer finds this system grossly unfair when the Senate is even more highly leveraged than the electoral college. Each state gets 2 senators regardless of population. Why isn't Boxer calling for an end to this highly leveraged voting body?

Thanks for pointing this out, a bump for pointing out the unreasonable Barbara Boxer position. (and it's not the only unreasonable position she holds, either: www.newsweek.com/george-will-barbara-boxers-position-...
