US History

I'm starting some research on US History. I grew up reciting the Pledge of Alliagance to the flag every morning along with prayers at the beginning of our school day.  I can't remember how I learned the words.

My parents didn't believe in public education. So, I was enrolled in a private catholic school run by nuns from Spain. My mom was a rebell. I didn't know it at the time. Something happened between my Mom and a nun and that was it. When enrollment time came Mom took me to another private school but this time was run by US nuns. So, in May speaking Spanish to August speaking English my life became a living nightmare.  Today, I am so grateful to my rebell and visionary Mom and my supportive Dad (a WWII vet).

Imagine, speaking Spanish at home and everywhere and going to school where you do not understand a word being spoken. As far as I can remember, our curriculum included History, US, Mexico, Europe, PR, English, Spanish (reading, writting, literature, etc). Science, Art, Music, PE, Math, Handwritting (one of my faves as it forces you to master one of the most important tools of our bodies - our hands).

So, one wonders.  How did we get here? What do I remember of the History taught in schools then and what is being taught today?  Why is it so interesting/complicated to say the least, to even speak of Liberty to people around us?

I noticed that there's a library section here in AC2P and I found one link which I followed. Made my day.  Thank you. I think we could nurture our library don't you think (like group hug kind of thing) ?

Today I started with the American flag. Oh, boy what I've read so far is so confusing. The story of Betty Ross is being disputed by articles in Wikip. Here's a link to a publication I found through AC2P LIB-rary (look at that LIBerty is in Library) http://www.gutenberg.org/files/51088/51088-h/51088-h.htm

The History of the First United States Flag by J. Franklin Reigart

But, I'll keep going to see where this takes me. What an adventure.  Like my Mother I am a rebell when it comes to many things including school.  I don't like boring, written tests that demands regurgitation of words, dates and numbers and formulas. I like writing research papers that tickle my brain to go further than what's written in just one book.

Here's a link to Amazon that caught my interest.

Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong Audible – Unabridged

I don't know if it's ok to post link to Amazon directly. Feel free to delete. The title caught my attention that's all. Fits me quite well. Question More. LOL.
