Bernie Sanders slams Federal Reserve in NYT op-ed

Bernie Sanders blasted the Federal Reserve in an op-ed published Wednesday by The New York Times, calling for "fundamental change" as a start.

In his latest comments to criticize the central banking authority as a puppet of the industry it purports to regulate, the independent Vermont senator and Democratic presidential candidate took aim at the Fed's long-anticipated decision to raise interest rates on Dec. 16 for the first time in nearly a decade.

"The recent decision by the Fed to raise interest rates is the latest example of the rigged economic system. Big bankers and their supporters in Congress have been telling us for years that runaway inflation is just around the corner. They have been dead wrong each time," Sanders wrote. "Raising interest rates now is a disaster for small business owners who need loans to hire more workers and Americans who need more jobs and higher wages."

I only wish more presidential candidates were criticizing the Fed.

Rand? What say you on the campaign trail?

Your dad had it right: "End the Fed!"

As Rand Paul pointed out in a recent speech before an economic club, arguing about whether the Federal Reserve should raise rates or not is a bit like arguing about what the price of bread should be in the Soviet Union.  The point is that we shouldn't have a quasi Federal Private Corporation with a monopoly on the issuance of demand notes and legal tender laws forcing acceptance of their bum credit.  Unfortunately most people are so deluded, including many within the liberty movement, that they don't really understand this issue.  Such is life, the masses are sheep, same as it ever was.  Even Rand waters down the message in an attempt to make it more palatable to the general public but it is to no avail, he is doing terribly in the polls compared to his Father at this point in 2012, his attempt to move more towards the mainstream has failed miserably as he is now, as much as I like him, nearly indistinguishable from the other panderers in this dog and pony show.

Dude, that was an awesome display of sound policies completely wrong for this country, but Rand has introduced a few bills contradicting your analysis of 'watering down' the message, while at the same time he is calling out the phonies in congress...

What happened to that part of the constitution where it says "No State Shall make any Thing but Gold and Silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts"?  I have never once heard Rand mention that, but Ron brought it up many times.

That is what I mean by watering down the message.

While I do appreciate what he does do, I was a lot more excited about his father because he wasn't afraid to speak out even when he was a lone voice.  I am not the only one who feels this way and it is reflected in the polls.
