Denver Police Destroy Tiny Homes Built for the Homeless, then Throw Away Homeless Tents in Middle of Snowstorm
The Denver Police Department arrested 10 people and destroyed tiny homes that were under construction for the homeless at Sustainability Park in late October, and now they have destroyed a tent city setup to shelter the homeless in a recent Snowstorm. Officers threatened those camped in tents with arrest and imprisonment for up to a year if they did not comply and ordered them to throw all of their survival gear in a dumpster or suffer the consequences.
The irony is that this land has been owned by the Denver Housing Authority as a local agent of HUD (US Department of Housing and Urban Development) and left vacant over 40 years even though ostensibly the purpose of the quasi-municipal federal bureaucracy is to provide housing for the poor.
Apparently instead it has been decided that they will be building $200K condos on the DHA/HUD owned land and until the construction starts the rabble rousers trying to build affordable homes for the destitute are to be rounded up and arrested while anyone setting up tents there to survive the winter will have all of their personal belongings summarily thrown away by the local police according to the edicts of whoever claims to be in charge of this awful mess.
