A Country Founded by Geniuses but Run by Idiots

If the only school curriculum allowed to explain how we got here is evolution, but your government stops a $15 million construction project to keep a rare spider from evolving to extinction … you might live in a country founded by geniuses and run by idiots.

If your government believes that using steroids or other drugs will ruin your life, but throwing you in prison for years will not … you might live in a country founded by geniuses and run by idiots.

If children are forcibly removed from parents who discipline them with spankings while children of addicts are left in filth and drug infested “homes” … you might live in a country founded by geniuses and run by idiots.

If your government believes that the way to make a school of unarmed children safe is to pass another gun law, this time with the illusion that three 10-round magazines in a rifle is safer than a 30-round magazine … you might live in a country founded by geniuses and run by idiots.

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for entering and remaining in the country illegally — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation’s largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free cell phones — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn’t be found — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according to the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

What a country!

Alan Scholl, editorial comment: The glaring idiocy is sometimes laughable, yes. But in the long run it's going to prove deadly  It’s far past time to remove the idiots and recapture this nation’s government. The insanity grows from day to day, becoming more bizarre, more damaging and more dangerous, on the path to total chaos and then total government. It MUST BE STOPPED and soon, and a large awakening and action by real Americans who love their country and God, of all colors and ethnic extractions, is the only solution.

And read this on the House or Senate floor depending on the office you win!

You should not require government permission to hunt or fish, and you should not require government permission to peacefully cross an invisible line, created, not by a property owner, but by an imperial tyranny. Freedom of travel and trade is every bit as much a God-given, human right, as the right to own a gun. Being selective about which natural rights to support and uphold, based on  your own prejudices and convenience, is what liberals and conservatives do, not advocates of liberty.

Ok, lets take the politics out first. Not all but many Liberal Democrats want a future voter base, and Capitalist Republicans influenced by special interests want cheap labor and economic growth mainly from a growing migrant latino population.

So not to have prejudice or be selective for or against, stop all federal and state welfare handouts including medical care (not health care) of any kind. Then lets see if they still want to travel across that imaginary line and trade their labor or time in the market place. Then when they are done trading or working they can travel back across that imaginary line and go home to be with their families. No special treatment for laws and no anchor babies. If you want American citizenship follow the legal process and get in line. That sounds more like personal liberty than tyranny. What had made America great until recently, was not the opportunity to be equal as everyone else, it was the equal opportunity to become "unequal". Work hard and smart and make something of yourself. Better yourself not givin a free ride. There is self respect, accomplishment, pride and liberation when you earn it. I personlly know of examples of Latinos and others who came here, started businesses and have become successful in the food, landscaping, construction, oil field industries, and others WITHOUT HANDOUTS. Because we allowed so many illegals to stay, we have created a burdensome subclass of uneducated and low skilled population. Now there is an obligation to use tax dollars in welfare to try to help these people asymulate into society, a situation that should not of happened in the first place. It's obviously a little more complicated than that. Just some thoughts.

Agreed, to EVERYONE, not just immigrants. Net government program payout to immigrants is quite minor compared to, for instance, Social Security retirement benefits and Medicare (not to mention the Military Industrial Complex). The difference is a factor of about 40 to one. Join me in eliminating the Welfare State, for everyone. Or do you think we should deport every native born citizen over the age of 65? By your logic, we should.

"Now there is an obligation to use tax dollars in welfare"

There is no such moral obligation. Recipients of government benefits are as much victims of the Welfare State as taxpayers, as both groups are spiritually and materially poorer than they would be without the Welfare State.

"try to help these people [assimilate]"

Assimilation is automatic in a free market society which does not have the social conflict inducing interventions of government. Let people be responsible for their actions, and do not interfere with their voluntary non-aggressive actions, and you will have social harmony.

I have long maintained that immigrants are potentially the greatest and most unlimited consituency for liberty there could ever be.

Immigrants tend to favor liberal Democrats over conservative Republicans, but this is irrelevant because:

1. This preference is not (IMHO) because they prefer the welfare state (are you so blind that you are not aware that Republicans are as much welfarists as Democrats?), it is because rhetorically, Democrats have been less hostile toward immigrants than Republicans, with Hillary Clinton (lying through her teeth) actually taking the pure free market position of open borders.

2. Republicans do not support liberty either. Just look at Donald Trump.

3. What makes you think that the government has the right to filter immigrants out by ideology or culture? That is a totalitarian concept, NOT a libertarian one. It is something reminiscent of Nazi Germany, not an American concept at all. Are you so naive that you believe our federal government would favor pro-liberty immigrants, or that they are even competent enough to make that work?

Give me liberty, or give me death!

The only way to take the politics out of any issue is to remove government involvement. Along those lines, it is my belief that the existence of one form of tyranny should never be used as an excuse for supporting the existence of another form of tyranny. The Welfare State is a tyrannical system. So is the fascist system of legal restrictions on freedom of travel. The fact that immigrants receive government benefits should be a reason to eliminate the Welfare State, not a reason to prohibit peaceful immigration.

I don't agree with everything; however, I do respect that you have your opinions. Thanks for sharing.

I am, but for the 30 or so years I was a libertarian minarchist, before I went all the way free market, I was also a consistent supporter of the free market position of open borders. Jacob Hornberger, the head guy at the Future of Freedom Foundation, is a minarchist, not an anarchist. He is one of the premier supporters of the libertarian position on open borders. Some people who call themselves anarchists, such as Hans Hoppe and Lew Rockwell, are actually "anarcho-statists" on this issue, and would use the violence of existing governments to enforce their xenophobia.

speaks Volumes. But maybe an alternative (but longer) title might have been: A country founded by Geniuses, and today run by those they were trying to protect us from.. but they're not idiots... just evil people working a long term insidious plan...
